This is the Jewish cemetery that is located outside the Old City and to the right of the Center. Saying it's huge is a major understatement! Well in the spirit of cemeteries, as we were walking the ramparts (the top of the Old City walls) earlier today and as we were approaching Lion's Gate we heard a growing noise, we just assumed it was the Muslims coming out of the mosque from afternoon prayers but the noise grew and grew and the swarm of people continued to grow. We hurried farther down the ramparts for a closer look and we saw a bunch of men carrying a large uncoverved box. It didn't take long to realize that there was a body in the box and that we were witnessing a funeral procession. Luckily there was a blanket covering the body but we could still see the outline of the person in it. It was pretty shocking! The procession continued outside the gate, right below us and out to the Muslim cemetery just outside the wall. We continued to watch and a few minutes later a man came walking back towards the city with the empty box... they had dumped the body in the grave. Guess they don't bury their dead in box. It was quite the sight. We were all pretty surprised by the scene.
